IT'S LIKE THAT...
"She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts..."
WORDS... April: Note: many, many hotlinked images in this post...
Watching the Apocalypse; Colorado's View.
April 9th - lunch time, typing from the coffee shop.
Out the window now, the skies are mostly sunny/blue - imagine if the sky was actually mostly sunny, like full of suns, how much that might burn. Nah, I'm happy with just one sun for now, thanks. But, the weather is pleasant. Which in turn means that I'm probably pleasant as well. Can't complain too much about April so far. Had a couple dreary days, and one day that just red. It looked like Moab had gotten nuked or something, red dust everywhere, like being on mars. Even the snow up in the high country was red. Interesting. Had similar dusty conditions yesterday, but no red this time.
I have to return to work in a few minutes, but the only thing on my mind now is getting out to ride. Got the frame sandblasted a couple weeks ago. It did not come out as I had expected, but I think I forgot to tell anyone to polish it down or anything. So, the texture of sandblasted aluminum is like 400 grit sandpaper, almost perfect for painting, assuming one wishes to paint the frame. I didn't. I planned to just run it raw metal. Shiny chrome/aluminum finish would be cool, but I think just clear coating the thing with matte would be fine, and really, it looks a little better....
The sandblasted beauty.
there's a tree out there. actually, there's lots of them...
A stone's throw from several subdivisions. Gotta love sprawl...
Last weekend, the girl and I drove out towards Pagosa Springs, CO. Keen drive for sure, and we had a little weather to make it interesting, but not nasty or impassible. Saw about 40 herds of elk scattered about the countryside. Odd, cause I rarely see them at all, and even if I do, its usually just a few here or there... Pagosa, I had not been there before.. small place. Hot springs. Hot springs are a huge draw for this place, though I'm not sure I could stand the sulfur smell for too long. But hey, natural hot water from the ground, right? ok. We did a quick stroll through town then headed to the outskirts, past all the new subdivisions and in to the more rugged elk hunting country. Beautiful country, and Colorado rarely ceases to amaze with all the landscape features (though, I still think its a close second to New Mexico...). Shot a ton of photos, most of which I'm sure are forgettable, but also a few keepers too. A few more my make their way to deviation status.
Okay, running back to work.. more later after my after work ride...
Winter holds on...
Deer are quite plentiful in the neighborhood lately...
Lots of elk...
About 8pm now... just rolled in from a quick after work pedal about the place. Came home to a flat tire on the front of the bike, nice. Fixed that, and bolted out to check out some of the trails by the college, and a couple trails adjacent to the gulch. Climbing, always climbing around here I swear. This bike is for sure not set up for long climbs either, it steers like a fish and weighs as much as a small whale. or porpoise. or Yugo. But I cranked the seat up high and that made things easier.
Almost climbed up raider ridge, but light was getting scarce and I discovered a new-ish downhill trail that goes through a previously un-navigable baby head section. It was bitch to walk up, and really, coming down it was not much easier. Dirt was very loose, trail was insanely steep, and my eyes were watering like mad. But that's how you find new stuff I guess. Or learn where not to go.
Anyhow... where was I ?
Next day, I ventured out in to the high desert of NM with Ben. Scoped some freeride lines out in the middle of nowhere, should be good for photos and skill building... then we ventured out to a hole in the ground which was located in the middle of another nowhere, huge canyon, with tiered levels that resembled Virgin Utah a bit.. and here we found some more crazy lines... I've not see all of Utah, or places like the Dakotas, but so far, New Mexico has about the most foreign and apocalyptic landscapes I've come across. I do miss them.
Moonrise at Angel Peak Bandlands, somewhere in NM...
Thank :iconbennance: for the views...
Point your wheel, and let go of the brakes. Photos will come later on of this one...
A fair imitation of Balancing Rock...
I designed a T-Shirt for the heck of it while in between projects at work...
I complained to Ben about the bike feeling noodley or wiggley or something... but I forget this is only the beginning of April, and last year
I was hardly riding yet, and really it takes a few weeks to get back in to the swing of things where I'm really back to 100%...
The above is me approaching 80% :D
