Book Cover. Back, Spine, and Front

After quite a while tooling around with different print on demand sites, I've finally settled on one. I was hoping to get a nice full color glossy publication out, but it was really difficult to find the quality I wanted at a reasonable price. That, and most places have a pdf file size limit of 100 mb, which to me is not enough if I want to put out a 100 page book. Additionally, the retail price of the book at that size would be a bit higher than I would feel comfortable asking, given the 'iffy' quality.
So, to be different (or maybe because I just can't do anything in a normal fashion) I decided on doing a black and white, bare bones, rough around the edges artistic statement.
The book is titled "GRIT". When I was putting together the color mock up, it was straining my weak little brain on what to to name it. Editing down to less than 100 photos was really tough as well -so I didn't. A good number of the images are taken from my gallery here, but there are some new, and some old photos that I've not shown yet. I reviewed the images over and over, hoping a theme or something of the sort might develop. But it wasn't until I got the proof back from Cafepress that the "grit" thing really hit.
The book is black and white, printed on a heavy, light cream colored newsprint - just like a paperback, and uses a visible halftone - It's far from pretty, but the process does a good job of bringing all the images together into one sort of "peice". Definately better than 'zine' photocopy quality, but not anything like one may find in "Aperture".
I have not given up on a color publication, in fact I am working with somebody right now about future possibilities, and that's all I can say about it at the moment. I would hope in six months or so to be able to produce the pretty glossy book I originally envisioned. But for right now, as rough as it is, I am more than satisfied with grit. It's rough, different, and think it sort of defines my 'photograhic style' - if I may be so pretentious :D
A preview is avaialble HERE
You will need Acrobat Reader, the file is about 5mb, and about 40 pages long. Yeah, that's a big preview, but the total book is 192 pages...
The book can be found HERE
